Saving one gray dog at a time......

The Weimaraner is a serious study in drama vs. comedy. Those who share a household with a Weim must have incredible patience and a sense of humor!

Our beloved Winston

Who should own a Weimaraner: only people and families who enjoy an active life style with lots of time outdoors.  They are excellent companions for runners, walkers and hikers.  If hunting is part of your recreation, they are an excellent personal gun dog.  They are thorough, meticulous hunters with a great nose and natural retrieving instincts.  As such, they need to live on a fenced property.

Who should NOT own a Weimaraner: Weimaraners require a serious time commitment.  Weimaraners do not do well when they have hours of time on their hands for they will take out their boredom on furnishings, or anything else they see as a source of amusement.  They are not a dog that can be relegated to a kennel situation.  They are strong and are not recommended for frail people.

Is a Weimaraner right for you? (Please take the time and take the quiz.  It will help you make an informed decision about whether or not a rescued Weimaraner is truly right for you.)

Atlanta Weimaraner Club & Rescue Mission:

The Atlanta Weimaraner Club Rescue (“AWCR”) is a group of Weimaraner enthusiasts and owners in the Atlanta area.  The mission of the club is to provide Weimaraner owners with a place to meet folks that enjoy doing things with their Weimaraners.  In addition to the social aspect of the club, the Atlanta Weimaraner Club provides for the rescue, care, and adoption of lost, surrendered and homeless Weimaraners.  The AWCR assists in re-homing Weimaraners by providing foster homes.  The funds for the rescue program are raised through various fundraising events and donations.  The Club also provides public education on the breed and responsible dog ownership.

In establishing our non-profit organization, we are looking for dedicated Weimaraner owners.  Our rescue program is run strictly on a volunteer basis.  Please join this group of dedicated individuals who are the true heart of the organization by becoming a member and helping raise funds to rescue our gray friends.  We have a dynamic group that has come together to dedicate time and focus on rescuing dogs through friendship, fun and fellowship!

Hear our humble prayer, O' God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death.  We entreat for them all thy mercy and pity and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion gentle hands and kindly words.  Make us ourselves to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessing of the merciful. - Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965)

Volunteer of the Month

*****LYNN****

Thank you Lynn......You are the epitome of a rescue agent.

Lynn has fostered, vetted, transported, or pulled so many dogs we’ve lost track!  Your expertise in homechecks, providing advice to foster and adoptive homes and general willingness to help has made a huge difference for so many Weims. Thanks also for sharing your wonderful fundraising talents.

And congratulations to you and Fergie, that lucky little girl.
